LSB#: 120309ML09.

Model: 1903-A4 (Sniper Version of the 1903-A3)
Serial Number: 3409204 – Correctly in the 1903-A4 Serial Number Range
Year of Manufacture: 3 / 1943
Caliber: .30-06 SPRG (Springfield)
Action Type: Bolt Action Sniper Rifle, Internal Magazine
Markings: The barrel, at the muzzle is marked “RA / (Cherry Bomb) / 3-43”. The scope mount is marked “Redfied”. The scope is marked “Model 330 / Pats. Pend. / W. R. Weaver Co. / El Paso Texas, U.S.A.”. The bolt, bolt handle and nose cap are marked with an “R”. The receiver markings are correctly marked off-center to be visible with the scope mounted. The left side is marked “U.S. / Remington / Model 03-A3” and the left side is marked “3409204”. All 1903-A4 sniper rifles were marked “03-A3”, but were serial numbered in ranges and were the only guns with off-set markings. This one is the real deal!
Barrel Length: 24”
Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a Weaver 330 scope. The scope is clear, with intact fine crosshairs and no dents to the body. There is some dust and dirt that will clean on the lenses, and just a bit of discoloration and freckling on the scope body. The scope is very sharp and rates on its own in about Fine – Excellent condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are original military oil finished wood. There is a Circle-P on the front of the pistol grip and there is a “S.A. / K” cartouche on the left side of the stock. The wood shows natural honest age and discoloring. There are some storage marks and gouges primarily on the right belly of the stock and below the ejection port. There is a “5K” hand scratched into the left side of the stock. This wood is not mint, but definitely untouched since the period of service. The LOP measures 13”. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.
Type of Finish: Parkerized
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp, though just a bit worn. There is no erosion or pitting in the barrel.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows thinning and discoloration on the trigger guard and floor plate. The barrel bands and nose cap show some surface rust frosting that will clean. This rifle was stored in un-oiled condition and collected some surface freckling that has apparently NOT ERODED the metal and cleans fairly easily. This freckling remains (practically) on the barrel bands and nose cap. All metal parts are finished correctly. The Screw heads are sharp, showing only rare turning. The markings are Sharp. Overall, this gun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the original Weaver 330 Scope, Redfield Mount, and Military Pattern (possibly original) sling.
Our Assessment: Few firearms are as important as the WWII Remington 1903 Sniper rifle. Just watch Saving Private Ryan… It took me literally 5 years to find my 1903-A4, and this one is just about as good, maybe even better. What we have is a correct and REAL U.S. WWII Sniper Rifle, with correct optics, a correctly marked stock and original metal condition! The condition here isn’t perfect, but it’s honest and untouched. I would choose a gun with honest wear over a questionable pristine example every day. Every military collection needs sniper rifles – which are always the hardest to find and most valuable. We cannot stress enough how important this rifle is to any U.S. collection and what an acceptable example this one is.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This C&R rifle can be transferred in California.
