Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “FREEDOM ARMS MODEL 83 .44 REM MAG / FREEDOM, WYOMING U.S.A.”. The left of the frame is marked “PAT.NO. 4126953”. The right side of the frame is marked “FREEDOM ARMS / PREMIER GRADE”. The bottom of the frame in front of the grip frame is marked “F 8205”. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “F8205”. The left of the grip frame is hand-scribed “8077-190”. The inside of each grip panel has “F8205” hand-written in marker.

Barrel Length: 5 1/4”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a replaceable serrated, ramped blade secured to a ramped base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flat topped square notched target sight that is screwed into the top strap and adjustable for both windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth laminate wood panels. The grips show no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Stainless Steel

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The hammer shows very light operational wear, the cylinder has very light turn-wear and there are a few scattered minor marks, difficult to notice except on close inspection. The screw heads are sharp. The pin heads are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The cylinder lock-up is solid with no play on each chamber and the trigger is crisp. The action functions correctly. The hammer has ¼ and ½ cock safety positions. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Freedom Arms makes premier quality firearms, and this single action Model 83 Premier Grade revolver is no exception. The action and trigger pull are exceptional. The lockup is quite solid, with no play and the bore is bright with sharp rifling. The .44 Magnum can serve as a hunting round for medium sized game and for silhouette shooting, and the less powerful .44 Special can be used for lower recoil target shooting. This would be useful for carrying around with you in areas frequented by big brown furry things that have a tendency to eat you if you aren’t careful. The 5 1/4” long barrel on this revolver is a nice compromise for a gun that is easy to carry but also can be very accurate. The stainless finish with the unfluted cylinder is very appealing to the eye as well as functional in being impervious to the elements. This is a really nice package for the handgun hunter, outdoorsman, or Freedom Arms fan. Please see our photos and good luck!
