Our Assessment: This is a “New Model” Marlin Model 1895GBL lever action rifle made with a 18 1/2” barrel and full length magazine tube. The original Model 1895 rifle ceased production in 1915, and was upgraded and brought back into production in 1972. The barrel is chambered in .45-70 Govt. and has Ballard-type rifling. The rifle is in about Fine-plus condition with about 98% of its original finish remaining. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. This rifle has been set up loosely around the “scout rifle” concept from Jeff Cooper. The rifle has a long eye-relief low power variable scope, ching sling, storage on the gun for additional ammunitionand is capable of being single-fed through the ejection port if necessary. This is an interesting take on the scout rifle concept and is chambered for a cartridge which has seen a revival in recent years, able to achieve amazing performance with modern propellant and projectiles. Please see our photos and good luck!
