Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN JAPAN” and at the receiver with “* / F”, underlined script “U” and a proof mark. The right side of the barrel is marked “BAR-22 CALIBER 22 LONG RIFLE ONLY”. The right side of the bolt has a proof mark and the right of the receiver is marked with the serial number. The bottom of the trigger guard is marked with a gold-filled Buck Mark logo. The buttplate is marked “BROWNING”.

Barrel Length: 20″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a folding “U”-notch adjustable for elevation and drift-adjustable for windage in its dovetail at the rear of the barrel. The top of the receiver is grooved for a scope mount (none included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with straight grip, straight comb and black plastic buttplate. The forend has a few scratches at the front and light handling marks. The buttstock has a few light marks along the toe-line, another at the heel and light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 13 ¾” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate, which shows little wear, in about Fine-plus condition. The stocks are in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is is some scratching on the right of the barrel and magazine tube just forward of the forend, otherwise there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a cross bolt safety behind the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with a two-piece black cardboard Browning box with serial-matching label and styrofoam tray. The box has scattered light wear and some surface loss from tape, in about Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: The Browning BAR 22 rifle was produced starting in 1977 and was discontinued in 1985. This rifle was made in 1982 and is in Fine condition with some scratching on the forend, barrel and magazine tube, but otherwise appearing to have seen little use. With a similar shaped receiver to their center-fire BAR line, this would make a great addition to a collection which already has a BAR. Please see our photos and good luck!
