Our Assessment: This is a Winchester model 70 Ultra Match made in 1972 and chambered in the .308 Winchester cartridge. The rifle is in Fine-Excellent condition with about 97% of its finish, a Marksman stock with accessory rail and handstop, only light wear and a great bore. The .308 Winchester was adopted as the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge in 1954 in an attempt to get similar ballistics to the .30-06 in a more compact case. The cartridge should be suitable for rifle matches out to 600 or more yards. The Ultra Match rifles were built in the Custom Shop and so exhibit excellent bedding with extra care taken in the crafting of the action and chamber and come with an externally adjustable trigger. This is a beautiful rifle in a great cartridge that comes in a great Feerland case and with excellent competition iron sights. It is ready to hit the range and punch some paper. Please see our photos and good luck!
