Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “FREEDOM ARMS MODEL .454 CASULL / FREEDOM, WYOMING U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. / 4228607 / 4126953”. The bottom of the frame in front of the grip frame is marked “D11805”. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “11805”. The left side of the grip frame, under the grip panel, is scribed “11805”.

Barrel Length: 4 3/4″ Round

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a replaceable serrated ramped blade on a ramped base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flat topped square-notched target sight that screwed into the top strap and adjustable for both windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The installed grips are two-piece laminated hardwood panels. The panels have no notable wear or damage with only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: The finish is brushed stainless steel.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is no notable wear or damage with only very light handling marks. The cylinder does not have a turn-line or any notable wear or damage. The screw heads are sharp. The pin heads are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The cylinder lock-up is SOLID, with NO PLAY WHATSOVER on any of the five chambers, and the trigger breaks crisply. The action functions correctly. The hammer has a ½ cock position. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with five A-Zoom .45 Colt snap caps. The caps show light wear on their rims and on their rubber primer inserts, in about Fine condition.

Our Assessment: Freedom Arms makes premier quality firearms, and this single action Model 83 revolver is no exception. The action and trigger pull are exceptional. Given that Dick Casull, one of the original designers of the .454 Casull cartridge, was also one of the founders of Freedom Arms, it should come as no surprise to see one of his revolvers chambered in his cartridge. This revolver would make a great sidearm in bear country and could even serve as a hunting primary. You can practice with the comparatively comfortable .45 Colt and save your wrists some trouble, too. This revolver is in Excellent condition with little sign of use and is ready for your next hunt, fishing trip, or any other purpose you would have for a premier quality .454 Casull.
