Our Assessment: George Shielke was a gunsmith in New Jersey back in the ’50s and ’60s. It appears that he built this rifle on an FN mauser-style action, chambered in .222 Remington. Also known as the “triple deuce”, the .222 Remington is an historic cartridge, the first .22 rimless commercial cartridge and went on to serve as the parent case for the 5.56mm NATO and .223 Remington cartridges. When first introduced is was a popular target caliber though it was eventually eclipsed in velocity and power by the .22-250 and .220 Swift and it is still popular today, espcially in countries which ban the use of “military” cartridges. The rifle is in about Fine condition with little wear in either its massive bull barrel or its even more massive laminate target stock. This rifle will make a nice benchrest rifle for the lucky winner. Please see our photos and good luck!
