Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “C. SHARPS ARMS CO. INC. / BIG TIMBER, MT USA / 74-2624”. The top of the barrel is marked “Old Reliable” in front of the rear sight and “C. SHARPS ARMS CO. INC. / BIG TIMBER, MONTANA U.S.A.”, “CAL. 45” and “2 1/10” behind.

Barrel Length: The heavy octagon barrel is 1.0” flat-flat at the muzzle and 30” in length.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a globe-style hooded, beaded post that is dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a “V”-notch buckhorn which folds to present  a “V”-notch sliding ladder style sight. The top tang is drilled, tapped and filled to accept a peep sight (none included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are smooth select walnut with silver forend cap and case-colored steel semi-crescent buttplate, straight grip and straight comb. The forend has a few light drag lines on the left-rear, otherwise the stocks have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The LOP measures 14 1/4” from the front of the forward trigger and 13 3/8” from the front of the rear trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate has no notable wear or damage, in Excellent condition. The stocks rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: The barrel is blued, the receiver, lever, hammer and lower tang are case colored and the forend nosecap is silvered.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. This rifle has double set triggers that are adjustable for trigger pull. With the rear trigger set, the trigger breaks crisply at 5.9 ozs. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes in a cardboard box with styrofoam inserts to keep the rifle protected. The box has some light wear, in about Very Good-plus condition.

Our Assessment: This is a C. Sharps Arms Model 1874 Sharps Sporting Rifle. It has a double set triggers, a heavy 30” long barrel chambered in .45-Govt., a beautiful walnut stock with versatile iron sights and the capacity to accept a peep sight. The rifle is in about Excellent condition with 99% of its original finish remaining and the bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. This rifle is perfect for BPCR silhouette shooting and SASS Long Range Rifle competition. The double set trigger breaks at only 5.9 ozs. and the long 30” barrel will give you enough sight radius to help keep all your shots in the X ring. Please see our photos and good luck!
