Make: Mountain Riflery John Bolliger Custom Winchester

Model: Signature Series Model 70

Serial Number: G2459058

Year of Manufacture: Modern (Left Mountain Riflery Feb 2007, Likely at the shop since 2005)

Caliber: .243 Winchester

Action Type: Bolt Action Rifle with internal magazine and hinged floorplate

Markings: The right side of the barrel is marked “John Bolliger / RIFLEMAKER”. The left side of the barrel is marked “Two Forty Three / WINCHESTER”. The bolt is marked “9058”. The rear tang of the receiver is marked with the serial number “G2459058”

Barrel Length: 24.25”

Sights / Optics: There are no iron sights, nor is there a location to mount them. The rifle currently sports custom Bolliger Rings and bases holding a Swarozski “Habicht 6-18×50 A” scope with TDS-4 Reticle. The glass is crystal clear free of scratches. The scope lens covers have kept them safe, but lightly scuffed the exterior of the scope body. It is easily overlooked.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is beautifully figured wood with a darker inlay at the forend tip and metal pistol grip end cap and buttplate. The pistol grip has a palm swell. There are a few light compressions scattered about in the wood. The checkering throughout is sharp. There is a compression mark on the top and wood on the left of the forend. The darker inlay at the tip of the forend has a notable crack, it is not all the way through. There are a few compressions to the wood at the bolt handle and a few light marks on the opposite side. Our opinion is that these marks are from the light rubbing of a gun next to it in the safe and normal operation. The LOP measures 13.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the metal buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition, please note the crack in the tip.

Type of Finish: Custom Rust Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows only the slightest indication of wear from use and handling. There is extremely light operational wear to the parts. The jeweling to the magazine follower and bolt body is still sharp and not heavily worn. The knurling to the bolt head is beautiful. The gun is truly beautiful. There two notable patches of discoloration to the finish (appears to be surface erosion) on the left side of the receiver and bases. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine – Excellent condition considering the crack at the tip of the forend.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Scope mentioned above in Sights & Optics.

Our Assessment: WOW! That about sums up this rifle. The only major drawback is the crack in the tip of the forend. It has not gone all the way through yet, and still attached to the stock. Honestly, I overlooked it at first glance. It was not until I was stroking the tip of the wood I felt it. The small spots on the scope base and receiver on the left side could likely be cleaned up a little more by someone with some patience and care. This is a RARE OPPORTUNITY to purchase a John Bolliger custom rifle at a NO RESERVE AUCTION. Very few genuine John Bolliger rifles ever appear on the used gun market.
