Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT ANACONDA / .44 MAGNUM”. The left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo. The crane cut and crane are both marked “MM99487”. The right side of the barrel is marked “DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER / COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A.” The front left trigger guard bow is marked with the Verified Proof. The ejector rod slot is marked “S”. The rear of the cylinder beneath the star is also marked “S”.

Barrel Length: 4” with Full length ventilated rib.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a red insert serrated ramped blade pinned to the ventilated rib. The rear sight is a white outline square notch adjustable for windage and elevation. The top stap is drilled and tapped.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered rubber with finger grooves Hogue Rubber. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There appears to be a small patch of erosion in the bore just in front of the forcing cone. It maybe stubborn fouling, we could not get it to lift with our mild cleaner.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. There is a dragline on the cylinder. There is a mark on the right side of the muzzle. There is wear consistent with use and firing. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions Correctly. We did not fire this handgun.

Our Assessment: Colt introduced the Anaconda built on a new, heavy “AA” frame to compete with the Ruger Redhawk and S&W Model 29 revolvers. Our impression is that this revolver probably offers a smoother double action pull than the Ruger and is more rugged than the S&W. This revolver is great for hunting and with its 4” barrel, it would be the perfect carry companion for those fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts who sometimes run across unfriendly brown bears. If you download to .44 Special, it will make informal shooting enjoyable and won’t ruin all the meat on smaller game.
