Markings: The left side of the barrel set is marked “CAL. 38SP/ 357 MAG”, the underside is hand etched “920” as is the top of the frame under the barrel set, the lower right side of the barrel set is marked “8”. The left side of the frame is marked “COP / COP INC, TORRANCE, CA U.S.A.” the right is marked with the serial number.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a rounded blade. The rear sight is two rounded, serrated blades which also function as the barrel latch.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece grips are checkered dark natural horn with smooth bordering and nice fit to the semi-birds head grip frame. The stocks have nice fissures and natural tone variation, showing only light scuffs overall. The grips rate in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright and the rifling is sharply defined. There is no erosion in the bores.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95+% of its metal finish. The pistol does not have signs of prolonged use. There are mild scuffs and a few spots of hard dried oil inside the frame. We would be surprised if this saw more than a handfull go down range. The screw head slots are strait. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The pistol has four barrels and four firing pins which are triggered sequentially. The barrel set has an extractor star. The trigger pull is long and heavy by design. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A blue factory hard case and owner’s manual are provided, both showing light use, the case has rubbing at the edges, they are in Fine to Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: Torrance, California is not the home of the 4 barrel or ‘Pepperbox’ design, however none had ever fired anything like .357 Magnum before! Early 4-barrel cluster pistols usually had an exposed hammer with a rotating firing pin ring, these evolved to hammerless versions with early self contained cartridges in the mix. This is an all stainless steel tip-up 4-barrel cluster COP derringer with dark natural horn grip panels and its factory box. Its curvature is almost space-age, the tolerances are exacting and it does not have anything notable in the way of damages. The hammerless design and heavy Double Action Only trigger pull make pulling it from your holster quicker than actually firing it, which looks good in court if you ever stand trial for self defense. We love getting these in, a new customer will always come by the shop to see what the big deal is, they usually end up being the high bidder; in this case, the pistol IS good for a PPT in California.
