Our Assessment: This Rare Hungarian made Mannlicher G98/40 Infantry Rifle was made for the Nazi’s in 1943. It is a German contract gun that was made by Fémáru Fegyver és Gépgyár (FEG). The G98/40 is based on the Hungarian Mannlicher Model 1935 Infantry Rifle. It was redesigned for the German contract. The caliber was changed to 8mm Mauser, the bolt handle was turned down, a staggered Mauser magazine was fitted flush with the bottom of the stock and Mauser stock hardware was used. The rifle still has deep Nazi markings with intact “eagles” and “swastikas” on both the metal and wood.
