Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the obverse is marked “.22 LONG RIFLE”, the left side of the frame is marked with the S&W logo, the right has the four line Marcas Registradas, the right side plate is marked “AirLite”. The crane cut is marked with the model and serial number.

Barrel Length: 3”, with Solid Rib

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a low profile serrated ramp blade that is integral to the rib. The rear sight is a square notch, in a “U” channel and square notch on top of the frame.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are black wrap-around rubber stocks that cover the front strap of the grip frame, giving finger grooves up front and checkers on the flanks. The stocks have a few light rubbing marks, without major damages. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is highly formed. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. The cylinder has a few spots of rubbing through the surface finish, it does not have an established drag line. The case coloring is dark, there are a few light marks on the other surfaces, though none grab attention. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces light play in full lockup of all 8 chambers with nominal side to side play. Double action is smooth, single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Smith & Wesson 617 ‘no dash’, from about 1997 with an 8 shot cylinder, weighing only 11oz. This impressive little rimfire pistol is going to do great on hikes, boating trips and for clearing the ground in front of you with some snake shot. It does not look to have seen much use and will truck on for generations with proper care. Please see our pictures and good luck.
