Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is spectacular walnut with a rosewood grip and forend nose cap, the grip cap has a gold colored Steyr logo oval metal insert; the top of the plate has some rub wear. The stock is matte finished but has two spots of what appears to be varnish on the grip cap, please see our pictures; we do not believe the stock was ever refinished. The checkering of the forend and pistol grip have sharp definition with infrequent rub wear. The other surfaces have but a few small compression marks. Excellent grain is found on the left side cheek piece of the Bavarian curved comb. The belly and forend have QD sling swivels installed. The stock’s fit to the metal and rosewood inserts is completely flush, please see our pictures of this beautiful rifle. The LOP measures 13 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the brown ventilated rubber recoil pad which is set with a black spacer; the rubber is semi-supple with some rub wear present. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: Matte Blue

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, there are some spots of tough lead fowling near the muzzle, it does not appear to be erosion, with a thorough soaking and removal kit, the bore should look great; the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows some operational wear on the bolt body. There is rubbing at the rim of the muzzle, a few scuffs are found on the metal surfaces, along with a few areas hinting at faint patina. There is a shallow mark on the tip of the spoon-shaped bolt handle. The rifle looks to have been used infrequently with proper storage. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, the trigger breaks crisp at 4lbs 6oz with little to no take up, when set forward, the trigger pull is 13 OUNCES. The bolt has a short throw and rear locking lug system that allows for a short pass of the hand to chamber a new round. The balance of this rifle is superb, there is effortless point of aim. The interacting metal components show negligible use. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is one factory magazine, showing only a few small rub spots, in Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: Steyr’s well made, innovative and just plain stunning firearms need no introduction, but for those that like reiteration, we haven’t seen a single product of theirs come through that didn’t have at least one innovative feature or step in production quality over their nearest competitors. The fit and finish is up there with show room quality, the hammer forged barrel has a nice patterning near the chamber which tapers off with the barrel towards the muzzle. Shouldering and pointing the rifle is effortless, with the single set trigger, it should be accurate for hundreds of yards, even with the iron sights. .270 Winchester is a great round for taking medium game and can perform out to 1,000 yards. This European rifle with the American cartridge should make for a great pairing. We don’t see these come through often, especially from the 70’s in this condition. Please see our pictures and good luck.
