Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with Marble’s “Sheard” dovetail set beaded post front sight and a flip up ladder rear sight, also set in a dovetail.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are smooth and nicely finished wood. There are a few marks and depressions scattered throughout, though these are most notable on the left side of the forearm. The wood looks well preserved and appropriately aged, though the finish is slightly thinner on the stock than the forearm. The LOP measures 13” to the crescent butt plate. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The bore is just a bit gray and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is no pitting present.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows some chemical thinning on the underside of the frame, with a patch of mottling on both sides of the frame and the lever. There is some thinning on the forearm cap and the magazine hanger. There is scattered thinning, but this is a very sharp rifle. The Screw heads are sharp, showing only a few turnings. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This is a very nice and very honest Winchester Model 94. If the ’73 won the west, then the ’94 won everything else. This is certainly Winchester’s most widely produced and successful lever action – a John Browning design, and this one is exceptionally nice and desirable with the special order 26” octagonal barrel and date of manufacture.
