Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “.22 LR”, with eagle over “N” proof (found again on the bolt and left of the receiver), the date code and Ulm antler, the left of the receiver is marked with the serial number and “HK INC. ARL VA 22 201 / HECKLER & KOCH GMBH / OBERNDORF/N MADE IN GERMANY / mod HK 270”.

Barrel Length: 19 ¾”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade in a checkered base, which is adjustable for elevation. The rear sight is a square notched leaf in a base that is driftable for windage, on a base that is fixed to the barrel. The receiver is slotted for dovetail pattern claw mounts (not included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The oil finished walnut stock has a Schnabel forend tip and “Bavarian” comb. The stock shows a few infrequent marks, found on the left of the forend, comb and flanks; the stock remains a beautiful item with no cracks or major damages. The LOP measures 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the serrated black plastic butt plate; the plate has a few tiny marks with no major damages. The stock rates in about Fine Plus to Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows only a few faint scuff marks on the metal, there are a few shallow scuffs on the trigger guard. This rifle looks to have been used infrequently and was well taken care of in the interim. The screw head slots are sharp, however the butt plate screw heads have some surface erosion. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine Plus to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The bolt handle has a release lever on the back, which makes for smooth reloading. The trigger pull is smooth and the safety is found on the left of the trigger guard. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is one blue 5-round magazine, showing light use, in Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: This H&K 270 comes to us from 1980 and has about 99% of its metal finish remaining. The beautiful walnut stock fits comfortably and is free of major damages. The rifling is sharp with a bright bore and no erosion, the action is smooth and the controls are easy to use, making this a great rifle for training the youth or for gopher control.
