Markings: The barrel set rib is marked “AYA-AGUIRRE & ARANZABAL – MADE IN SPAIN”, the right barrel is marked “AMERICAN ARMS, INC. / N.N.C.-MO.”. The underside of the left barrel is marked “* / 18,4”, the underside of the right is marked “7 / *** / 18,4”. The underside barrel flat is marked with the serial number, the company logo, “1420 gmos” and each side is marked “12-70” in oval, three Spanish proof marks and “900 K p/cm2”, the right side is marked “C2” (date code). The top of the forend and bracket are marked with the serial number, found again on the lower tang and watertable of the receiver, which is also marked “12-70” in oval on both sides, three Spanish proof marks and the company logo. The lock plates are marked “AYA AGUIRRE & ARANZABAL”, the lock plates, receiver and its components are beautifully rose-and-scroll engraved, please see our pictures of this incredible shotgun!
Barrel Length: 28”, with solid, concave rib.
Choke: The right bore is fix choked about Improved Modified (0.702”), the left is fix choked Extra Full (0.689”).
Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a steel bead, which is screwed into the concave rib.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a beautiful two piece checkered walnut set. The splinter forend has a case colored diamond-shaped and case colored insert and scroll engraved nose cap. The stock has a scuff compression through the checkers on the left flank and a faint scuff on the smooth right flank. The butt stock has a strait wrist and a few scattered light compression marks. Both stocks have exceptional fit to the metal fixtures. The drop at comb is 1 3/8”, drop at heel is 2 1/8”. The LOP measures 13 ¾” from the front of the rear trigger and 14 5/8” from the front of the forward trigger to the back of the stock; the back of the stock is finely checkered and shows only a few spots of compression. The stocks rate in about Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blued & Case Colored
Finish Originality: Factory original, however the underside of the trigger guard appears to have been touch-up blued.
Bore Condition: The bores are bright but for a few small areas of persistent lead fowling which should clean out to reveal a bright surface. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows a few scattered scuff marks on the barrel set (of note, on the underside and left flank). The left side plate has a small amount of wear from the plate screw lever. The underside of the trigger guard’s bluing is almost purple and looks to be touch-up work; the tone variation stops just before the forward lower tang screw, there are some scrape marks under the finish. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This is a dual non-selective trigger sidelock shotgun with ejectors; the action returns to ‘safe’ when opened. The shotgun weighs 6lbs 14oz. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This shotgun was made in Spain by Aguirre y Aranzabal, the company has been making shotguns and rifles since 1915, this is their Number 1 model which has been around since the 1950’s. The shotgun retains about 98% of its blue and case colored finishes, the stocks have but a few minor marks, the bores are bright with no erosion and the shotgun’s engraved surfaces are of the Purdy-style with rose and scroll patterns. The metal to metal and wood to metal fit is superb, this 12 gauge should make you the talk of the range and should do well in the field. Please see our pictures and good luck.
