Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “222REM. MAG. R / Q / X”. The right side of the barrel is marked “V” in a triangle / “8” / “R.E.P.” in oval. The bolt is marked “52916”. The left side of the receiver is marked “052916 B/ REMINGTON / MODEL 40XBR”. The scope is marked “LEUPOLD / BR – 36X”. The rubber butt pad is marked “Remington”.

Barrel Length: The barrel is 24” with a muzzle diameter of 0.967” and is free-floated all the way to the receiver.

Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The receiver is drilled, tapped and fitted with a two piece scope base and quick disconnect ring system. The rings house a Leupold fixed 36 power scope with a 40mm objective, fine crosshairs and a 6-1/4” sunshade with two rubber lens caps. The scope image is bright and sharp with no apparent damage to the internal workings or objectives. The scope and mounting system rate in about Excellent condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The benchrest-style hardwood stock has a honey brown stain and exceptional linear grain. It features a fluted comb and pistol grip with a beavertail forend. There are very light scratches and scuffs in scattered areas as photographed. There are no cracks or major damage. There is a cutout in the stock for the tang-mounted safety, which is missing. The LOP measures 13-1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the factory rubber butt pad. The pad has a black spacer and only displays light scuffs, while remaining highly supple. The Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: The barrel is polished stainless steel. The receiver is blued high carbon steel. The bolt is jeweled. The trigger guard is matte black painted.

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows very light scuffs and scratches on the barrel and receiver. The bolt and portions of the chamber are worn from interacting. The trigger guard has light loss of finish. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger breaks at 5.6 OUNCES! The action is very smooth. The safety has been removed, PLEASE take caution when chambering a round, the trigger pull is extremely light. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with a fixed 36 power Leupold 40mm objective scope as described above in “Sights / Optics”.

Our Assessment: This rifle has a stainless steel bull barrel with sharp rifling, a hardwood stock with very minor scuffs and scratches, a Leupold 36 power scope and a 5.6oz trigger pull. It is chambered in .222 Remington Magnum; Per Wikipedia: “The .222 Remington Magnum was created by lengthening the case and shortening the neck of the highly accurate and very popular .222 Remington cartridge, which dominated varmint and benchrest shooting during the 1950s. Case capacity is about 20% greater than that of the .222 Remington, producing moderately higher muzzle velocities. The .222 Remington Magnum served as the basis for the German-developed 5.6×50mm Magnum sporting cartridge.” This setup is a bench rest shooter’s dream that rates in about Excellent condition.
