Our Assessment: This is a customized Sako Model AIII, which bears a 1980 date stamp. The side of the barrel is marked “WEEMS” and we were able to find references to a Texas gun maker named Cecil Weems who was known for his spectacular stocks. The stock on this rifle IS spectacular. It is made of deluxe walnut with a lovely grain pattern, possesses fine hand checkering with fleur de lis designs and a fluted buttstock. The forend tip is rosewood and the grip cap and buttplate consist of blue borders with checkered rosewood insets. The barrel sports no import or brand markings, but the name “WEEMS” is marked above the caliber stamp on the left of the barrel. Almost no evidence of use is present, save a few very light marks on the stock and marks on the buttplate. This rifle is chambered in .270 Winchester and is equipped with a Leupold scope on a Buehler quick release mount. This is an absolutely gorgeous custom Sako rifle which will bring a sparkle to any collection.
