Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON” and the left grip frame is marked “5 / 23279 C4 / C6”. The yoke is marked “19K8383 / MOD 14-4” and the yoke is marked “C14 / 23279”. The right side of the barrel is marked “38 S.&W. Special CTG”. The right sideplate is marked with the S&W logo. The right side of the frame is marked with the four line Marcas Registradas address. The right grip frame is marked “J” in a circle, “H” in a triangle over “4549”. The butt is marked “19K8383”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Patridge style blade on an elevated base. There is an S&W micrometer click square notch rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered target grips with brass colored S&W medallions. There is little wear to these grips. There are very small compressions on the front bottom corner of the right grip. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are only the lightest of handling marks on this revolver. The cylinder only shows a faint dragline. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly in both single and double action. It features a wide target trigger and hammer. We did not fire this handgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in its original two piece cardboard box with matching end label, S&W wrapping paper, cleaning kit, owner’s manual and various paperwork. The box rates in Fine condition. The cleaning kit and paperwork rate in Excellent Condition.
Our Assessment: The S&W K-38 Target Masterpiece is one of the icons of 1950s and 1960s Bullseye shooting. It is a well-balanced, accurate .38 Special with a long barrel and adjustable rear sight. It appears as if it was only fired a very few times judging by the faint dragline. It will make a great collector’s piece, target gun, plinking gun, training gun or home defense gun.
