Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45” The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 19, 75”. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PAT FA MFG CO HARTFORD CT USA” The rear face of the cylinder is marked with a Rampant Colt logo. The front face of the cylinder is marked “562”. The inside rear face of the loading gate is marked “515”. The inside of the left grip is marked 11 / COLT’S HTFD, CONN,” and hand scribed “562”. The right grip is hand scribed “562”. The left side of the backstrap is marked “31562 SA” The left side of the front strap is marked “31562 SA”. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with a “VP” in a triangle and a “P”. The underside of the frame is marked “31562 SA”

Barrel Length: 4 ¾”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is a square notch in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered plastic with a Rampant Colt on each grip panel. There is little wear and the grips only show light handling marks. The grips rate in about Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue with Case Colored Frame

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is only a tiny mark in the case coloring on the bottom left corner of the left side of the frame, and two very faint handling marks around the cylinder pin release button. The cylinder appears nearly untouched and does not show a dragline. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in its original black Colt factory box with green interior. The side of the box has a gold label which correctly identifies the make, model, caliber, and barrel length of this revolver. The lid of the box reads colt. The writing is very faint. There are a few light stains on the lid which may clean off with the proper cleaning solution. The inside of the box has frayed spots from the rubbing of the sights and hammer. The inside of the lid is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY” with the Rampant Colt Logo. One corner of the lid has torn but the box is still very sound. The box rates in Very Good Condition. The owner’s manual, warning sheet, and handgun handling pamphlet are also included and are in Fine Condition.

Our Assessment: This is a beautiful 2nd Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver in near Mint Condition. This is as close to new as you will find on a revolver this old. It appears that this revolver was only fired in the factory and was stored for the rest of its life. This one even comes in its original box. Now is the chance for a Colt collector to obtain a beautifully preserved Colt Single Action Army Revolver.
