Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “Cal. 38SP / 357 Mag”. The left side of the frame is marked “COP / COP Inc, Torrance, Ca. U.S.A.”. The right side of the frame is marked “007772”. The underside of the barrel on the right side is marked “743”.
Barrel Length: The four barrel assembly is 3” in length.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed rounded blade. The rear sight is a double serrated blade mounted on the barrel release.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece grips are checkered hardwood. There are no marks on the grips that we could see. The checkering is sharp and without flaws. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bores are bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bores.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is a mark in the finish on the left side of the frame between the trigger and grip and a very faint mark on the underside of the trigger guard. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: There is an owner’s manual and original factory box and sleeve included. The white and blue factory box sleeve has the COP logo on the top, front and back. The front of the outer box sleeve is marked “Model SS-1 / Stainless Steel / Calibre .38/.357 Mag. / Serial No. 7772”. The bottom of the sleeve is marked with the maker’s address. The edges and corners of the cardboard sleeve are worn and mildly frayed. There is some loss of surface finish on the top and bottom of the sleeve. The factory box is a blue leatherette clamshell case with two spring hinges. There are a few minor mars in the surface of the lid. The interior bottom is molded plastic with felt shaped to match the pistol. There are a few compression marks in the felt. The interior of the lid is covered with white silk-like material with the blue Cop logo. Overall the box is in Fine condition. The original owner’s manual is included in the factory box. The document shows slight discoloring on the front and back covers. The document is in Fine condition.
Our Assessment: From Wikipedia: “COP stood for Compact Off-Duty Police. The double action weapon is about twice as wide, and substantially heavier than the typical .25 automatic pistol, though its relatively compact size and powerful cartridge made it a good choice for a defensive weapon or a police backup gun.“ This COP has been pampered. There are minimal handling marks. It has been fired, but it is obvious great care was taken when using and handling this pistol. Designed by Robert Hillberg and made in California for a short period of time around 30 years ago, this solid compact pistol is easy to conceal and will pack a punch with its .357 magnum rounds. As you lock down the four shot barrel and grip this sturdy pistol in your hand, you will immediately know the COP is a serious, quality personal defense choice that is easily concealable.
