Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “FREEDOM ARMS MODEL 1997 .44 SPECIAL / *FREEDOM, WYOMING U.S.A.*”. The left side of the frame is marked “T 0155”. The bottom of the frame in front of the grip frame is marked “PATENTED”. The right side of the frame is marked “FREEDOM ARMS / PREMIER GRADE”. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “T0155”.

Barrel Length: 4 1/4″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a replaceable serrated blade on a ramped base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flat topped square notched target sight that is screwed into the top strap and adjustable for both windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece black laminated hardwood panels. The panels have no notable wear or damage with only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The cylinder has light turn wear inside the stop notches, and the jeweled hammer shows faint operational wear. Otherwise, there are only very light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The pin heads are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The cylinder lock-up is SOLID, with NO PLAY WHATSOVER on any of the five chambers, and the trigger breaks crisply. The action functions correctly. The hammer has a ½ cock safety position. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a one-piece blue cardboard Freedom Arms box with blue foam interior sections, serial-matching end-label, Chamber-Safe gunlock with keys, and an assortment of factory paperwork which includes a manual and test-target, all in Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: Freedom Arms makes premier quality firearms, and this single action Model 1997 Premier Grade revolver is no exception. The action and trigger pull are exceptional. The .44 Special cartridge may not be as powerful as its movie-star famous cousin the .44 Magnum, but still makes for a more than suitable defensive cartridge. Judging by the test-target that comes with this revolver, it may not be such a bad target cartridge either! This is a really nice opportunity for the handgun shooter made by perhaps the best manufacturer of single-action revolvers in the world.
