Our Assessment: This is a vintage post-war Winchester Model 42 .410 bore pump action shotgun with vent-rib barrel from 1947. The Model 42 was the first pump shotgun specifically designed for the .410 chambering and resembles its larger cousin the Model 12. This example has select walnut stocks with Deluxe Grade-style checkering and Pigeon Grade-style engraving by Angelo Bee. While the wood and engraving are certainly worthy of a Pigeon Grade, the gun was produced in the correct period for a 42 Pigeon Grade, and the refinish was quite well done, leaving the markings almost as-original, Angelo Bee was still working his way up to Master Engraver at Browning in 1947. This gun was made into a Pigeon Grade-style gun after leaving Winchester and after Angelo had honed his skills to become one of the finest engravers in America. This beautiful shotgun is sure to find a spot in a Winchester collection or the collection of an Angelo Bee fan. Please see our photos and good luck!
