Freedom Arms Model 83 .475 Linebaugh 6″ Revovler

SOLD FOR: $1,370.98
LSB#:
181015PR86

Make: Freedom Arms

Model: 83

Serial Number: F7380

Year of Manufacture: 1988-Present

Caliber: The rear of the cylinder is marked “44 / M”, however the chambers and bore are much too large for .44 Magnum. With the recesses for the rim measuring approximately 0.543″ in diameter, the chamber at the base measuring approximately 0.504″. A 0.475″ bullet engages the rifling when inserted at the forcing cone. We suspect that this revolver is chambered for .475 Linebaugh, but it should be confirmed before firing.

Action Type: Single Action Revolver with a 5 Round Side Loading Gate Cylinder

Markings: The left side of the frame is marked “PAT.” and “4228607 / 4126953”. The bottom of the frame in front of the grip frame is marked “F 7380”. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “7380” and “44 / M” in circle.

Barrel Length: 6” to the end of the muzzle brake.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a replaceable serrated ramped blade secured to a ramped base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flat topped square notched target sight that is screwed into the top strap and adjustable for both windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth rosewood panels. The grips show a few scattered light scuffs and small compressions. There are no chips or cracks. The grips are in about Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Stainless Steel

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 94% of its metal finish. There are scattered light scratches and scuffing on the frame and barrel. The cylinder has a light turn-line and a few light scuffs. The screw heads are sharp. The pin heads are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The cylinder lock-up is solid with no play on each chamber and the trigger is crisp. The action functions correctly. The hammer has ¼ and ½ cock safety positions. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: Freedom Arms makes premier quality firearms, and this single action Model 83 revolver is no exception. The action and trigger pull are exceptional. The stainless finish with the unfluted cylinder is very appealing to the eye as well as functional in being impervious to the elements. The serial-matching cylinder is marked “44 / M”, but the chamber is clearly too big for the .44 Magnum cartridge, too big even for the .45 Colt. Given the dimensions we can measure, we believe that this gun was converted to .475 Linebaugh, though this should be confirmed before firing the gun. Developed for handgun hunting or as a backup when in areas with dangerous game, the .475 Linebaugh is a powerful cartridge capable of pushing a 400 grain projectile at 1400 fps! Once the caliber has been confirmed, this should make a really nice package for the handgun hunter. Please see our photos and good luck!

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This single action revolver CAN be transferred as a dealer sale in California and CAN be sold as a private party transaction (PPT) at our shop in Simi Valley. All cartridge firing handguns (even C&R’s and antiques) sold to a California resident must be DROS’d. This does not apply to out of state residents.
