Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN BELGIUM”. The right side of the slide is marked “BROWNING CENTENNIAL / = 1878-1978 =”. The barrel at the port is marked “CAL. 9m/m P”. The front strap is marked “1878D-0781”. The right front of the trigger guard is marked with a Crowned “P Peron V” in an oval proof mark. There is a faint “L” in the bottom of the grip behind the magazine well.

Barrel Length: 4 5/8”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a rounded blade fixed to the top of the slide. The rear sight is a flat-topped square notch dovetailed into the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut with a round brass medallion in the top half marked “B”. The checkering in the left grip shows very light wear and the checkering in the right grip is sharp. There are no mars in the checkering. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: The pistol has a polished chrome plated finish with a gold-plated trigger.

Finish Originality: The finish is original.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. There are no sights in the bore or on the breechface that this pistol was ever fired outside the factory.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 99+% of its metal finish. There are light swirl marks from polishing scattered over the surfaces, with a light scuff mark on the lower left edge of the frame and a few light handling marks in the top of the slide. The slide and hammer serrations are sharp. The grip screws are sharp and the markings are crisp. Overall, this gun rates in about Near Mint condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. It has a frame mounted safety and the spur hammer has a half cock safety position. This pistol has a functioning magazine disconnect and the trigger pull is crisp. The slide is tight on the frame. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a 13 round chrome plated magazine, a display case and an owner’s manual. The magazine shows minimal wear and is in about Excellent condition. The high capacity magazine will not be supplied to a resident of California nor to a resident of any state with magazine capacity restrictions. The display case is dark walnut with an oiled finish. The lid is held with two brass hinges and has a locking latch on the front which comes with two keys. There is a brass plaque in the center of the lid marked “1878”, “BROWNING / CENTENNIAL” and “1978”. The bottom of this case is fitted for this pistol, and the inside of the lid and bottom sections of the case are lined with red velvet. There are a few very light marks in the top of the lid and an impression of the grip frame in the velvet lining the inside of the lid. Overall, the case is in about Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: This is a Browning Hi-Power that was made by FN in Belgium to commemorate the 1878-1978 Browning Centennial. The pistol has a polished chrome plated finish with a gold-plated trigger, checkered walnut grips with bronze medallions, and comes with a factory presentation case. The pistol is in about Near Mine condition with about 99+% of its metal finish remaining. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, and appears to have not been fired since it left the factory.  The slide is tight to the frame. This pistol is the perfect size for concealed carry: not too heavy and with a grip frame that is very ergonomic. With an all steel frame and slide, there is no need to worry about using +P loads in this pistol. Besides being used for concealed carry, it can also be used for home defense.
