Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “Classic”. The right side of the frame is marked “DAN WESSON FIREARMS NORWICH, NY U.S.A. / 1705579”. The top of the chamber is marked “.45 ACP”, the right is marked “MATCH”.

Sights / Optics: The sights are Dan Wesson branded Trijicon Novak-style night sights. The front sight is a blade with a single tritium lamp, the rear sight has a square notch with two tritium lamps, both dovetailed to the slide. The lamps have dimmed slightly but are still useable in low-no light environments.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered bobtail cut checekred wood with smooth raised diamonds at the grip screws. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The grips rate in Excellent overall condition. The frontstrap and mainspring housing have fine checkering for additional grip (a smooth mainspring housing is also included).

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The barrel and controls have light operational wear. There is a light mark on the right of the dust cover. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are undamaged. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly with no play between slide and frame at the rear. The barrel has no play when in battery. Trigger is very crisp. We did not fire this handgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A black serial number matching hard case, two 8-round magazines, smooth mainspring housing, cable lock, and an assortment of factory paperwork including manual are included with this pistol. The accessories rate in Excellent overall condition.

Our Assessment: From Dan Wesson’s website: “Produced only in small numbers in recent years, a resurgence in demand means we brought the bobbed Commander back into regular production. One of the few California-legal models in our 1911 line, it has a loyal and growing following in the Golden State. With stainless steel slide and frame, its flats are brushed and rounds are bead blasted. With snag-free Tritium sights and a bobbed mainspring housing, it is an excellent candidate for concealed carry.” This is a great Commander-size pistol with all stainless construction, bobbed mainspring housing for comfort and concealability, solid construction with no play, crisp trigger and gorgeous appearance. In Excellent condition and with its original case and accessories, this pistol would make a fantastic addition to any collection as well as being a defensive handgun to which you can trust your life.
