Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The cylinder has a faint turn-line, mostly not through the finish and the hammer and trigger have light operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup has no play on each chamber. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a two-piece blue cardboard Smith & Wesson box with metal reinforced corners, serial matching label, wax paper, an assortment of factory paperwork including manual and S&W cleaning accessory pack. The box has light wear at edges and corners, in about Fine condition. The cleaning accessories are still in their plastic packaging, wrapped in tissue paper.

Our Assessment: This is a great addition to any Smith Collector’s safe. The reissue of the model 24 was a limited production run with approximately 7,500 manufactured in six configurations from 1983 to 1984. The guns have classic S&W styling with the ejector-rod shroud instead of a full lug and traditional patridge or baughman sights instead of the newer red-ramp and white-outline sights. This example is in Excellent condition, showing little sign of use, and with its original box and accessories. While this would still make a great sidearm or home defense gun today, in its high condition and with its box, we expect that the Smith & Wesson collectors are going to take serious interest in this. Please see our photos and good luck!
